KEEP an eye out for ice-skater Chantelle Kerry at the 2012 Olympics she may just be there.

The youngster is steaming ahead in the world of ice.

Chantelle is competing at the National Figure Skating Championships at Warners Bay this week and recently took out the Hollands Trophy at Canterbury Olympic icerink.

In July she won the state title for primary ladies at Penrith as a representative of Macquarie Ice Skating Club.

Chantelle is this week's Northern District Times Junior Sports Star.

Her mother, Monica Macdonald, is a former Olympian, competing in ice dancing with Rodney Clarke the first and, to date, only Australian couple to compete in this category at an Olympics.

"I went to the '88 Olympics," Ms Macdonald said.

"It was the experience of a lifetime you come out of it a different person."

And now her daughter has the Olympics in her gaze.

Chantelle told the Times she loved skating because it made her feel free.

"You can have fun doing it . . . I want to be an Olympian one day," she said.

"My favourite skater is the Chinese-American Caroline Zhang (2007 junior world champion).

"She skates really well and slides across the ice."

Chantelle is now in the running to win the $1000 prize provided by the Times and sponsor Domayne North Ryde.

The winner will also receive a medallion.
