WHILE most 13-year-old girls busy themselves
with Australian Idol and iPods, Cheltzie Lee devotes her afternoons
and weekends to skating on the ice.
The St Andrews resident practises six afternoons
a week under coaches Kylie Fennell, Gloria Pracey and Maria Fillipov,
as well as doing choreography sessions with Cameron Medhurst.
Coach Fennell has great expectations for her
"diamond" student, and believes the 2010 Winter Olympics
are definitely within the skater's reach.
"We have a five-year plan in place for
her, so I would like to see her at the 2010 Games [in Vancouver],"
Fennell said. "She is a bit of a diamond, a type that doesn't
come along very often."
Lee recently won the junior ladies division
in the Margaret Joynton-Smith Trophy in the Hunter Valley, after
good performances in the Hollands Trophy, NSW Championships and
the Australian titles.
"The competition she is really looking
forward to is the Australian Youth Olympic Festival next year, where
she is the only NSW skater competing," Fennell said. |
