SEAN Carlow, 17, has spent most of his life on ice. He has been figure skating since he was two.

He has left his home in Drummoyne to spend eight weeks in Beijing competing in the Four Continents, Junior World and Senior World contests.

"It was something I always did when I was little and I enjoyed it," he said.

"Now it's more the rush of doing tricks like jumps and spins."

This is not the first time Sean has competed overseas. He was ranked 13th at the Junior ISU Grand Prix in the USA last year.

Travelling overseas is one of the other things Sean loves about figure skating.

After deferring Year 12 for a year to concentrate on skating, Sean now trains twice a day for about two hours at a time.

He wants to make it to the Winter Olympics.

"I want to be in the top 10 and do shows and teach overseas," he said.

If he makes it, he will be following in his parents' footsteps.

Elizabeth Carlow, Sean's mother was a figure skater in the 1980 Winter Olympics. She was ranked 10th in the competition.

His father John Carlow was a United States national champion figure skater.
